While in hospital in Istanbul, Belinda was visited by a burley looking police officer (with obligatory brushy moustache) and a chubby moon-faced boy who had both come to take her statement.
She didn’t speak any Turkish, and the police officer didn’t speak any English – this was going to be interesting to say the least. It transpired that the police officer had enlisted the services of this twelve-year-old school-boy, whom he had found outside the hospital, to act as translator.
There are two accounts of the accident - the original handwritten version taken at Belinda’s bedside and the subsequent typed up ‘official’ version from the police station. They were both finally translated into English in April 2020.
